Hi,

One of the things GRE verbal test expects from you is to have the ability to understand the fine shades of word meanings. This is required if you want to get a really good score. I will regularly list words here to help you out on this front. The best way to get hold of these words is to use cards to remember them. Follow this procedure:

1. Take a normal white paper and cut it into rectangular pieces, about 1.5 inch X 2.5 inch. You could create a lot of them in one go and keep using them everyday thereafter. Paper should not be translucent so that you don't get to see what's written on it from other side

2. Go through the words in the blog along with their meanings and synonyms and example sentences. Make sure that you are reasonably confident of word usage and meaning

3. On one side of card write the word and on other write the short meaning of word. This should be enough to remind you of meaning and usage. Remember you have already done some work as part of point 2 and are comfortable with the word usage as such

4. At one time only create 5-10 word cards depending on your comfort level. You can refine this as you get more experienced with this

5. As you go through your daily routine, keep going through these cards trying to remember the meaning without looking at the meaning of word

6. On a weekly basis, go through the meanings of all the cards that you created for that week

I found this to be of immense help and I can assure you that it can benefit you if followed with some descipline. Ok, enough of procedures, in my next post later today I will publish first list of words. Meanwhile get ready with your blank paper cards....

Sandeep

Hi All,

This blog is an attempt to help prospective GRE exam takers to score better in the venerable verbal section of the test. I appeared for this test in 2001 and scored 800/800 in both verbal and quants section.

I will list the tips that I got from various sources and helped me get a good score. Also I will periodically list some important words here. Idea is to gradually increase the vocab to achieve the best results.

Hope to see you around....

Regards,
Sandeep
